Hello lovely subscribers and welcome to Women’s Cycling Weekly: Your weekly round-up of all things news, content, racing, and more from the world of women’s cycling.
There were some comments to the contrary after the race but imo Sanremo Women lived up to the hype. Sure, someone like Demi Vollering or Kasia Niewiadoma could maaaybe have launched a big move on the Poggio and lit things up a little more but what about that last-ditch attempt from Elisa Longo Borghini? The sprint where, once it had happened, it seemed obvious all along that Lorena Wiebes would win. Just the sight of the women racing along the Ligurian coast and getting to tackle such iconic terrain was exciting enough.
Wiebes is the woman of the moment, it seems. Just a few days later the European Champion showed that, not only can she hold on for the climbs of Sanremo, but she can still dominate a bunch sprint like nobody else, winning Brugge De Panne comfortably ahead of Chiara Consonni and Elisa Balsamo. With Gent-Wevelgem just a few days away will we see her do it again?

Chiara Consonni for Gent-Wevelgem is my bet. CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto team looks strong.
