Hello lovely subscribers! ✨
I hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas! It’s that weird limbo period between Christmas and new year that so what better time to get your teeth stuck into a Q&A with none other than Annemiek van Vleuten?
We sent these questions to Movistar’s lovely communications officer, Dani, who sent over a recording of the interview. I’ve transcribed Annemiek’s answers for the benefit of maintaining the Q&A style but if you want to listen instead then scroll down for the audio!
More Q&As are coming up from some exciting riders but we’ll be reaching out to more in the new year, so if you have a great idea for a question or someone to pose them to, drop us a comment!
Over to Annemiek!
Q: If you could soundtrack your career (/life) what songs would be on it? 🎶
One of my favourites after Tokyo is Big in Japan because they played it always in the television show that was related to the Olympic Games. So that gave me the feeling of Tokyo. For the rest I don't have really specific songs that remind me of my career.
Q: Who did you look up to in the sport when you were younger?
Marianne Vos was always one of my biggest idols in the way she achieves her goals like with having fun and playing around and being not super super structured. For me she was in that way really a role model. She would be always sprinting for the signs, having fun in training rides, and still she was performing super well and I think one of the lessons I tried to take with me in my career is that fun should be the base of performance. And yeah, for sure, also with the results I felt like she was at the level when I started taking that I will never ever achieve actually no one could achieve it I had the feeling and now to say like we are next to each other and really have our own specific races so it's special for me that in in the end I came at the level of Marianne Vos.
