Women's Cycling Weekly issue 66
A weekly curation of women's cycling news and content straight to your inbox
Hello! Welcome to Women’s Cycling Weekly issue 65 🚴♀️
Probably like many others, I had seen the ‘Mieke Kröger’ Tweets going around for ages and wondered what on earth it was all about, so when the opportunity to interview the woman herself came up this week I couldn’t wait to find out.
Unfortunately, I didn’t quite get the answers I was looking for because Mieke herself doesn’t really know the origin of the meme. Regardless, she was a delight to speak to and the reason behind the interview was brilliant too: she had travelled from Germany to the Croatian coast by bike. Although doing something like that is my actual worst nightmare (wearing chamois for that long? You’re alright, ta) I can still appreciate what makes these self-sufficient trips so appealing and it was fascinating to hear Mieke’s motivation behind it.
Anyway, you can read all about that here if you so wish!
In other news, where is everyone? It’s a bit of a skeleton crew over at Itzulia with lots of the big favourites choosing to train at altitude (yes, even AVV post-wrist break) in the run-up to the TDFF. So the TDFF effect strikes again — this time to highlight the need for teams to hire more riders now that the WWT calendar is so expansive.
In other news, I’m in beautiful Czechia for the Nové Město MTB World Cup which will be the first one I’ve ever been to IRL!! (So watch this space for some inevitable musings on how much more equal MTB is than road 🥴.)
