Women's Cycling Weekly Issue 74
A weekly curation of women's cycling news and content straight to your inbox
Hello! Welcome to Women’s Cycling Weekly issue 74 🚴♀️
So we recorded the podcast this morning and spoke at length about how the Giro is much more open than it might have been in the past and how Annemiek hasn’t been able to simply ride away from everyone like she used to…and then the rode away from everyone on today’s stage.
Still, it’s been a fantastic race so far and although the GC might be more or less wrapped up it’s been so good to be able to watch so much of it. I’ve done my fair share of slagging this race off in the past but this year they really have stepped up their game — the TDFF effect!
Two more stages to go and then its just TWO WEEKS until the aforementioned TDFF kicks off, not that I’m counting or anything.

News 📰
Marianne Vos has left the Giro Donne in order to focus on preparation for the Tour de France Femmes. She won two stages at this year’s race, taking her all-time total to 32.
Amanda Spratt and Georgia Baker were also forced to leave the Giro after Spratt tested positive for Covid ahead of stage 8.
Australian national champion Nicole Frain has joined Dutch development team Parkhotel Valkenburg and will debut at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.
After going on the attack early in the stage, Clara Koppenburg crashed out of the Giro on stage 8. Details of her injuries have not yet been confirmed.
According to UCI President David Lappartient, the Giro Donne could be moved to avoid clashes with the men’s Tour de France and proximity to the Tour de France Femmes. The race is currently scheduled for the start of July in 2023.

Tour of yore 🇫🇷🥐
Guys I am SO sorry I’ve been so lazy this week about this segment!! I know I promised it would be back this week but Covid was truly no joke and I’ve been wiped out. Tilda has been busy and so in lieu of a proper profile on a former Tour heroine here is an ICYMI: a great piece where Marianne Martin remembers the 1984 Tour that she won.
I PROMISE this section will return next week and if it doesn’t you have my permission to send us hate mail xo
That’s all 👋
