Hello lovely subscribers and welcome to Womenâs Cycling Weekly! đŽââïž
After a hectic few weeks and months it feels weird that thereâs no Womenâs WorldTour race on this week. Of course, there was supposed to be one with the now-cancelled Womenâs Tour đ.
I never really wrote much about the cancellation of The Womenâs Tour at the time but as much as it might not have met all the WorldTour requirements in recent years, it has always been a brilliant event on the ground. The Womenâs Tour came right past my house when I was a 20-year-old just getting into the sport and being able to see an elite womenâs race up close, on roads I cycled on with my dad, made it a tangible prospect and deepened my interest in racing. The whole âinspiring the next generationâ ârhetoric can be a bit overdone, but being able to see races really does have an impact, and seeing them pass right by your house hits different to just watching on TV. Sadly, The Womenâs Tour being forced to cancel the 2023 edition seems like just one example of many on the UK racing scene lately.
Anyway, hereâs hoping we see it make a comeback. Meanwhile thereâs plenty of exciting racing coming up (although tbc on whether we can watch) with the second 2.1 CIC-Tour FĂ©minin International des PyrĂ©nĂ©es which has a pretty strong start list as riders prep for the Giro and Tour. Plus, for those interested, thereâs also Unbound Gravel this weekend.
AND, seeing as thereâs no WWT racing on next week can I interest you in a mountain bike world cupâŠ?
Enjoy the newsletter,
