Hello lovely subscribers and welcome to Women’s Cycling Weekly! 🚴♀️
Well, after I made such a song and dance about the surprise live coverage of the CIC-Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées last week, they only went and spectacularly fumbled the bag on Race Organisation 101.
I almost decided to write about it even though I was meant to be on holiday but then I realised that everyone else had it covered and, truly, what else is there to say except that race organisers have a duty to ensure the safety of riders and having cars driving alongside them doesn’t fly.
What can be worse than endangering the peloton in your race that was already flagged for safety issues the previous year by having inadequate marshals and security? You ask. Well, getting on your soapbox about how these women are ‘spoiled children’ for not wanting to get hit by cars mid race????? How’s this quote from race director Pascal Baudron:
“The girls have requirements that are not in line with their level, they imagine that they are on the Tour de France and that all the roads must be closed,’ and, ‘I tell myself it is not worth organising a race to see all those months of effort ruined for the whims of spoiled children.”
Bro, shut up.
A very bizarre side note is that one of the members of the organisation of this race is part of CPA Women. Will just leave that there. Alongside this statement from TCA.
Anyway, some, hopefully, better racing afoot this weekend with the Tour de Suisse Women, where we will see the return of Vollering vs the World.
On with the newsy.

News 📰
If you hadn’t already seen based on the intro: the CIC-Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées was cancelled due to safety concerns. The first stage was riddled with issues like cars driving on the course, and despite reassurances from the organisers, the second stage was much the same, leading riders to stage a protest in which they rode neutral to the bottom of the Hautacam. Following intervention from the UCI and the CPA the final stage of the race was then cancelled.
