Hello! Welcome to Women’s Cycling Weekly! 🚴♀️
Time flies when you’re having fun, eh? I can’t believe it’s been two years since I started this thing! Tbh SO MUCH has happened since then that it actually feels like longer (or maybe two years is actually just a long time).
Anyway, let’s go back to November 2020… *cue floaty rewind music*
If you’re a paid subscriber (love ya) then you will know all about the build up to me starting this newsletter, which I wrote about on Wednesday.
Long story short: I didn’t have a job or anything to do during lockdown so I interviewed Ashleigh Moolman Pasio (thanks, Ashleigh!!) which was then put onto the Rouleur website. After that, I went to cover the first races post-lockdown (the Navarra Classics) then went to cover the Giro Rosa with my photographer pal, David Powell.
It was a fab few months, especially after lockdown, and I knew I wanted to keep doing all that ✨exciting✨ stuff. The problem was it was November, and there was nothing happening. So, I fired up the ‘ol Substack here.
In that first edition I wrote:
“WCW will cover the many and varied disciplines and aspects to the sport; so yes, there will be pro racing news, but you’ll also find a curation of reading, listening and viewing recommendations and even some content from outside the cycle-sphere that links - however tenuously- to the sport. Enjoy!”
And tbh, I reckon we still nail the brief there.
There’s some parts that have been lost to the passage of time (and maybe my patience/schedule) and some familiar ones from nowadays that didn’t exist yet (no upcoming races or results). Looking at it, I kinda want to bring back one or two of those slower bits — but what do you guys reckon?
Anyway, I ended that first issue with this, which is exactly how I feel now about the last two years:
“If you got this far then THANK YOU, I hope you enjoyed the first issue of WCW and that you don’t regret spending your precious time reading my waffle.”
Truly, forever grateful for all of you who subscribe and support this humble lil newsletter. I love you all, but if you’ve been here since day one I especially rate you.
If you want to hear the full waffle story of Women’s Cycling Weekly so far then you can hear it on this week’s ✨special edition✨ of our podcast!
Also, if you asked us a question after we put out a call for them a few weeks ago then make sure to listen as we answer them at the end!!
Normal service will resume next week but, for now, thanks for the best two years and here’s to many more! 🥂

Hi Amy and Tilda,
Great podcast and thanks for answering my Q. Your replies hit the notes I had hoped for in the awkward phrasing. Tilda's was perfect, the creasting a col with nothing but easy(-ier) downhill ahead. One of our small accomplishments that we still remember decades later.
Happy Terrible Twos, mesdames.
Thanks for the podcast, I am totally here for Tilda I suppose this Amy person is fine. She seems to have some difficulties showing affection for people she obvs cares about so that must make life a little difficult.
Thanks for answering my question, too. And seriously, we all know Amy gives all the fucks and she can't hide it and that's why we're here. I hope you all make all the money so you can afford to do all the writing and podcasts and everything.
