not trying to add to your plate, but i have taken an interest in indoor track cycling…is it possible to list the upcoming races and/or results? Thanks!
If you have the time, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Jos van Emden interview. I am less than impressed, but I'm sure your take would be more informed, thoughtful, and entertaining.
Having read it again: I don't agree with his throwing the previous staff under the bus, and I don't know what truly went on there -- only the riders and staff will know -- but I do think it's fair to point out that the team underperformed last year. He seems to have good intentions, too. I rate this quote from him:
"I don't want the riders to get the feeling that I’m coming into the team as a man who thinks he knows better because I’ve been in the sport for so long. I listen to them and try to learn as much as possible about how they approach things.” - I hope it's genuine.
I think we will actually see the team slowly progress now as it seems the focus has shifted away from a team built almost entirely around Marianne Vos and they're nurturing some young talent.
Thanks for the insight. I agree that it's completely valid to critique the previous year's performance. It's something many seem to resist doing, even in a positive framework. I did feel there was a lot of "they don't deserve nice things... yet" undertone in the interview that I did not agree with.
But I'm sure it will (and should) be a discussion all year- both teams are doing very well already. I cheer for all the riders and teams, really. But that guy in particular, I'm glad he wants to learn, but still, no thanks. For now. Perhaps things will change.
