Hello! Welcome to Women’s Cycling Weekly! 🚴♀️
Sorry this newsletter is coming to you late, on Friday I was at a friend’s wedding…and then yesterday I was recovering from said wedding 😵💫. The last time WCW was so badly neglected was probably before Tilda came on board — which I realised is a whole year ago!! So, happy WCW anniversary to Tildz! 🎈 and sorry I didn’t finish off all your hard work getting the info together for Friday by sending this bloody thing on time.
As you all now know, while I was partying my way to a hangover on Friday/Saturday, Annemiek van Vleuten was powering her way to another world title — with a fractured elbow, no less. The takes on whether that’s a good look have been numerous but while it might not be the best example to set, and however predictable the end result might have been I think we can all agree that it was SUCH a good race and that it will be pretty fitting to have AVV in the rainbow jersey in her final year of racing.
This was basically my reaction when the dance floor opened at the wedding, too.

P.s if you’re a WCW supporter I hope you enjoyed the sneak preview of our chat with the one and only Freya North on Wednesday. If you have no idea what I’m on about then you can always
News 📰
Audrey Cordon-Ragot recently suffered a stroke, which was diagnosed after the fact via an MRI scan and is the reason she is sitting out the World Champs.
Annemiek van Vleuten fractured her elbow in a crash during the mixed relay on Wednesday. She has been back on the bike already and may still race the road race.
Not that she cares now, but Van Vleuten was also fined after the race for illegally long (and dare I say hideous) socks.
Demi Vollering was forced to pull out of the worlds road race after testing positive for Covid.
The Cyclocross World Cup calendar for 2022-23 calendar has been confirmed, including a new round in Dublin but not the previously hoped-for London round (cheers Tilda’s crying).
The next few World Championships have been announced: road worlds will take place in Montreal in 2026, 2027 will be a combined worlds in Haute-Savoie, France, and the 2028 MTB worlds will be in Leogang, Austria.
